The 81st Venice International Film Festival has concluded. The event, which began on August 28, ended on September 7. The closing film was "The American Backyard," directed by Italy's Pupi Avati.
The prestigious Golden Lion award was won by renowned Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar for his film "The Room Next Door," which is his first English-language film.
Australian-American star Nicole Kidman was named Best Actress at the festival for her role in the erotic thriller "Baby Girl." Kidman’s performance as Romi, a CEO overwhelmed by sexual desire, captivated the judges. In the film, Romi develops a secret relationship with an office intern, Samuel, due to dissatisfaction in her marriage. The film explores the impact of their illicit affair on her career and family, highlighting themes of sexual desire and existential crisis.
Nicole Kidman attended the world premiere of "Baby Girl" at the Sala Grande Theater on August 30. However, she was absent from the awards ceremony due to returning to Australia following her mother’s death. Kidman, 57, previously won the Oscar for Best Actress in 2002 for "The Hours." There are hopes that "Baby Girl" could bring her further Oscar success.
