On March 27, 2023, actor Shakib Khan filed a case against producer Rahmat Ullah in Dhaka's Cyber Tribunal under the Digital Security Act. The tribunal accepted the case and instructed the PBI (Police Bureau of Investigation) to submit a report.
The allegations in the case state that Rahmat Ullah filed false charges of rape against Shakib Khan, claiming he had been arrested over these allegations. It was asserted that the defendant made aggressive and false statements that socially defamed and humiliated Shakib. Additionally, Rahmat reportedly misrepresented himself as a producer, disseminating defamatory information to damage Shakib's social reputation.
However, the PBI's investigation report indicated that the allegations against producer Mohammad Rahmat Ullah were not initially proven true. Although the plaintiff sought to contest this, the judge of the Cyber Tribunal, A.M. Zulfiqar Hayat, dismissed the case due to insufficient evidence in the investigation.
As a result, Rahmat Ullah was released from the case. Nonetheless, Shakib's legal team is preparing to appeal to a higher court for a re-investigation of the case.
Court sources revealed that the investigating officer, PBI Inspector Golam Mukhtar Ashraf Uddin, submitted the investigation report to the court on April 24 of the same year. The report stated that the allegations against Rahmat Ullah under sections 24, 25, and 29 of the Digital Security Act, 2018, were not initially substantiated. Following this, Shakib's lawyer Khairul Hasan filed an appeal against the report.
He stated, "I requested a time extension for the hearing of the appeal. However, the court rejected the request and accepted the PBI's investigation report, subsequently dismissing the case. We are preparing to appeal this decision."
