Since January, the number of hospitalized dengue patients in Bangladesh has increased to 12,091 as 275 additional people have been hospitalized with the mosquito-borne viral disease in the last 24 hours.

During the period, however, no one died.

As of September 6, 2021, 52 people had died as a result of the viral illness.

In the 24 hours leading up to 8:00 a.m. Monday, 220 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and 55 in other parts of the nation, according to a news statement from the Directorate General of Health Services' Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room.

Among the dead, 48 died in the Dhaka city, two in the Chattogram division, one each in the Rajshahi and Khulna divisions.

Among them, 12 died in July, 34 in August and 6 in September, according to the DGHS release.

Among the hospitalised patients since January, 10,942 or 90.50 per cent have been hospitalised in the Dhaka city.

In six days of September, 1,735 patients were hospitalised in Bangladesh.

A total of 2,286 hospitalised cases were recorded in July alone while the figure was 372 in the past six months between January and June.

In August, 7,698 cases were admitted to hospitals across the country, indicating a rapid increase in dengue infections during the monsoon season.

On Monday, 1,233 dengue patients were being treated in 41 hospitals around Dhaka, including 1,074 in the capital.

According to the DGHS, 10,806 dengue patients have been discharged from hospitals and returned home.
