In personal, family, social, or national spheres, the impact of the workplace is profound. A significant portion of our day is spent in the workplace. It is observed that when we return home from work feeling distressed in any way. It not only affects the individual but also impacts their family. If a woman is distressed, it affects her husband, and if a man is distressed, it affects his wife. The mental state of an individual in the workplace affects the entire family.

Mental instability in the workplace is the root cause of various physical problems. A recent informal survey conducted on LinkedIn by a mental health specialist in the United States revealed that among 1,228 respondents, 87% reported experiencing various types of illnesses due to the environment in the workplace, such as migraines, vomiting, hair loss, sleep disturbances, sudden weight loss or gain, mood swings, and panic attacks. Therefore, maintaining mental well-being in the workplace is extremely urgent, and certain measures need to be taken for that purpose.

Focus on Mental Investment

It is essential to focus on specific and necessary tasks and how to better assist employees in this regard. The behavior in one department of a company may differ significantly from another. However, fostering cooperation among all departments and ensuring a supportive and conducive work environment and culture is essential. Individuals need to invest in their mental well-being, so as not to be swayed by others' opinions.

Recruit Quality Employees

Companies should recruit internal quality employees and supplement them with external experts or a business unit manager to increase workforce capacity. This can lead to an understanding of work for employees in terms of dynamism and creativity. Therefore, it is essential to recruit employees based on their competence and improve their performance and work environment to enhance their mental health.

Utilization of Technology

First and foremost, it must be acknowledged that technology will not solve mental health problems. Rather, technology is another aspect of these problems. Every conversation on smartphones, online, social media, or mobile phones increases our frustration and decreases our attention. In the workplace, skills are needed to combat mental health issues exacerbated by technology.

Generational and Gender Gaps

In the workplace, there is a generational gap between different age groups. Middle-aged colleagues may feel reluctant to express natural feelings to younger colleagues. The same is applicable for younger employees. The societal age gap often manifests itself in the workplace. Therefore, open and normal communication or dialogue between male and female colleagues is crucial in most workplaces. Yet, there remains an invisible barrier between genders in our society. The more this barrier diminishes, the more productive the workplace will become.

Promote Leadership

If an employee experiences mental health issues for any reason, it affects the entire office. Therefore, regardless of the level of an establishment, mental health must remain consistent. Culture, efficiency, productivity, and experience are all related to mental health in the workplace. If mental health is not maintained, the efficiency of employees in the workplace decreases, affecting their family and social life. Therefore, promoting leadership is essential to address these issues.
