In November this year, 1 lakh 2 thousand 863 workers went
abroad with the clearance of Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training
(BMET). The Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment issued a
statement on Sunday (December 5th).
According to the ministry, Bangladesh set a new record for
foreign employment in November amid the Coronavirus pandemic. This month, BMET
has given clearance to send 1 lakh 2 thousand 863 workers abroad.
Earlier, in March 2017, more than one lakh workers went abroad.
And that year a total of 10 lakh 8 thousand 525 people went abroad, which is
the biggest record of Bangladesh so far. The following year, in 2018, seven
lakh 34 thousand and in 2019, seven lakh workers went abroad. But due to the
Coronavirus pandemic, foreign employments were put on hold in 2020. That year
only 2 lakh 17 thousand workers went abroad. The situation is relatively good
this year.
According to BMET sources, 4 lakh 85 thousand 895 workers
have gone abroad in the first 11 months of this year.
The Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and BMET hope that five
and a half lakh people will be employed abroad this year. Which is close to
normal time.
BMET Director General Shahidul Alam said the out-of-country
employment of around five lakh people in the epidemic is very positive. We
think that all the government initiatives including the Ministry of Expatriate
Welfare, BMET, District Manpower and Employment Agency, Recruiting Agencies are
involved in arranging registration and vaccination of the expatriates, paying
tk 25,000 for quarantine, installing RTPCR at the airport, paying the cost of covid
test for expatriates make it possible.
