In Malaysia, the authorities have arrested 121 immigrants, including 76 Bangladeshis, on charges of various immigration-related offenses. They were detained during a two-day joint operation in the hilly region of Cameron Highlands.
This information was recently shared in a statement by the country’s National Security Council.
According to the statement, a two-day joint operation in Cameron Highlands led to the arrest of 121 foreign nationals for immigration-related crimes. Among the arrested, 76 were Bangladeshis, 22 Indonesians, 14 Myanmar nationals, four Pakistanis, two Indians, two Nepali nationals, and one Vietnamese citizen. Of the total detainees, 111 were men and 10 were women.
Cameron Highlands District Police Chief, Assistant Superintendent Azri Ramli, stated in a press release that the number of foreign nationals involved in crimes in the tourist region of Cameron Highlands had increased. As a result, 143 officers from various departments including the Malaysian police, National Security Council, Immigration Department, Vehicle Department, Customs Department, Labor Department, State Enforcement Department, Cameron Highlands District Council, Cameron Highlands District Land Office, and the Anti-Corruption Commission participated in the operation to eliminate criminals in the district.
During the operation, 56 establishments were searched, and 686 locals and 2,090 foreign nationals were interrogated. Among them, 121 foreign nationals were arrested for violating Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations of 1963.
