Impact of Covid-19: Unemployment And Inequality

After the first wave of the coronavirus, Bangladesh and many other countries are now facing the second wave. The number of death is getting longer every day. Death is now just a fact of numbers.  No one knows when the covid situation will end. Although vaccination activities are going on all over the world it takes a long time to get this huge number of people in more than two hundred countries vaccinated.  So presumably, the coronavirus will spread panic like this for a while longer.

Due to the lockdown situation, all economic activities come to a standstill and the economy loses its normal momentum.  And if economic activities are stopped, it slows down the pace of development of the country.  People are being unemployed. When working people are being unemployed, it is much more challenging to move the economy of that country forward.

Unemployment is a common headache for most of the countries of South Asia.  Some effective attempts are made to solve the problem of unemployment to a certain extent because the COVID situation has changed all over the world. Various sectors of the economy are closed where a large number of people are struggling with poverty as they lost their job and it was their only source of income. Then the problem is exacerbated by the decision to lay off workers in the Corona epidemic.

The world is battling Unemployment, hunger, and poverty because of the coronavirus and will have to for many years. According to the International Labor Organization, one in four young people in Bangladesh is unemployed due to the coronavirus crisis.  As a result, Corona has had an adverse effect on people's daily lives. People's purchasing power is declining and in contrast, prices of daily necessaries have risen all over the world.  People are now facing hunger and unemployment. These two situations are related to each other. Unemployment causes poverty and poverty cause hunger situation.

The Coronavirus is engulfing the world in poverty.  The number of people living in extreme poverty is increasing.  At the same time, the number of hungry people in the world is also increasing.  That is a challenge for the world to handle.  Especially for developing countries because many people have lost their jobs already. Corona, meanwhile, is pushing many people around the world into poverty, and at the same time, it increasing the rich to unique heights.  In other words, the gap between rich and poor is widening for Corona.  Inequality is increasing in society. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) fears that global inequality will increase as a result of the corona.  According to a recent report on the global economic forecast, one year after the world Corona epidemic, there is growing concern among the general public.

Although vaccination activities have started in different countries, the anxiety is not decreasing.  Emerging and low-income countries have been hit hardest by the corona.  It has also been said that due to the decline in income in 2020, 9 and a half crore people have been added to the poverty line. Poverty is a condition that takes a long time to get rid of, as well as ample opportunities.  It is also time to create the necessary employment because in the meantime; many will be waiting to enter the new job market.

Coronavirus is spreading poverty all over the world.  Emphasis must be placed on employment to continue to develop the economy.  New employment fields need to be created.     Unemployed young people with many technologies used to earn money through freelancing.  This number is gradually developing.  The interest of the youth in the freelancing sector is also increasing.  Many countries like Bangladesh are moving towards the digital economy, the global market for digital outsourcing.  Freelancing is a popular career today.  Having the opportunity to work as you wish is a big advantage in this sector.  In order to revive the local economy, the industry must be revived.

It should emphasize the rural economy.  Organizations that have gone on strike will not be able to revert so quickly that they can be re-employed.  More emphasis should be placed on the technology sector along with the creation of traditional job markets. We need to plan how to increase the number of employees.  The authorities are placing more importance on technical education along with the traditional education system.  Acquiring technical skills makes it easier to meet employment challenges.  Then it is possible to decide one's own actions without rushing into the job market.

The evaluation of technically skilled labor is also high in foreign countries.  In a discriminatory world, ensuring equal rights for all is difficult and not possible.  To end this situation, job opportunities must be created and participation must be ensured.  Now, for the Corona pandemic, progress towards this goal has been temporarily hampered, but it will have to be implemented once the effects of the epidemic have subsided.  We need a non-discriminatory world and a non-discriminatory society.
