14-party alliance for speedy trial in Abrar murder case

Ruling Awami League led 14-party alliance has demanded a special speedy trail to bring justice to murder of Buet student Abrar Fahad.

"We urge the Home Ministry for a speedy trial in the Abrar murder case," said 14-party alliance spokesman Mohammad Nasim.

He was talking to reporters after an emergency meeting of the alliance at Awami League's central office at Dhaka's Gulistan on Friday.

The Awami League leader expressed dejection about the Buet vice-chancellor not appearing in public for two days after Abrar's murder.

Regarding the recent calls for banning student politics on Buet campus, Nasim said: "We do not support banning student politics."

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal Chief Hasanul Haque Inu said student politics will not be banned but politics of terrorists will be banned.

Abrar, a second year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, was beaten to death unit inside the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of Monday.

Some Chhatra League leaders have been accused of beating him to death for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Abrar's father filed a murder case against 19 people at Chawkbazar police station on Monday evening.

As of Friday, 17 people have been detained in the case.
