BNP Accuses Govt of Creating Scope for Virus Spread

BNP alleged on Sunday that the government had created space for the spread of deadly coronavirus instead of suppressing it by easing the shutdown and enabling the re-opening of businesses.

"They relaxed the shutdown and allowed the reopening of shops and markets without considering their potential impact on people.  The government could have feed people for at least four months to hold the shutdown in effect, "said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

He also said, "The government has not taken the requisite measures to save lives from the pandemic. Since people's lives are of little interest to them, they relaxed the shutdown just for income, leading to the mass transmission of coronavirus.

The BNP chief made comments while distributing relief materials to the poor in the Mirpur City Region at the initiative of the Dhaka City North Division of Jataiyatabdai Chhatra Dal.

He alleged that the government is least concerned about the lives of people and their sufferings because it is not chosen by them. "Money is to this regime."

Rizvi said their party leaders and activists have continued distributing relief materials among the poor and destitute across the country as per their ability.

He claimed that their party has so far provided around 13 lakh poor families with relief materials.

“BNP does politics for the welfare of people. The leaders and activists our party and its associate bodies are standing beside people across the country, but the government is arresting and harassing them by implicating them in false cases,” Rizvi said.

Stating that disasters and pandemics are triggering drought, he said that the government did not make adequate plans to combat coronavirus, despite having ample time to do so. "The footsteps of famine are being heard. People are conducting food demonstrations in different parts of the country, like Rangpur Kurigram.
