Easing Restrictions on Some Sectors Was Right Move: Quader

Awami League Secretary-General Obaidul Quader said on Wednesday that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken the right decision at the right time by relaxing constraints on some industries to save the lives and livelihoods of the people of the country.

He urged people, who claim that the government has made wrong decisions, to consider the socio-economic reality of the country and the condition of other countries.

Quader, also Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, made remarks while speaking from his official residence at a virtual press conference on contemporary affairs.

The government has already provided support to 40 million people, he said. "Approximately 150,000 metric tons of rice have been distributed in 64 districts and 10 million people have been brought under the rationing system," he said, adding that cash assistance will be provided to five million people ahead of Eid-ul - Fitr.

On May 10, the Prime Minister said that the government is trying to gradually reopen some sectors so that the poor can make a living. "We are taking steps so that people can earn money as this is the month of Holy Ramadan," she said.

The Prime Minister said the people are struggling a lot, adding that the government is doing its best to get food to their doorstep.

Quader said it is the tradition of the Awami League to stand by the people during crisis situations.

In addition to tackling the coronavirus epidemic, Quader said appropriate steps have been taken to manage mosquitoes in city corporations and communities around the country.

The Minister said that social consciousness is important to rid Aedes of the mosquitoes.

Bangladesh was hit by a massive dengue outbreak last year when 101,354 people were hospitalized. According to official figures, the mosquito-borne disease killed 179 people in 2019.
