Begum Zia Enjoys Eid at Home with Family

After four consecutive Eids in jail, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, now out on parole, on Monday celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with her family members at her Gulshan residence.

The BNP chief’s younger brother Shamim Eskandar and his wife Kaniz Fatema went to her residence Firoza in the morning with some cooked food and spent time with her until 1 pm, said a member of her security force.

Later, he said Khaleda’s sister Selima Islam came and exchanged Eid greetings with her.

In addition, BNP Chief Elder Son Tanique Rahman, his wife, daughter, his late son Arafat Rahman Koko 's wife, and two daughters spoke to Khaleda by phone from abroad and exchanged greetings.

In the evening, leaders of the BNP Standing Committee even spoke with Khaleda and wished her an Eid Mubarak.

On 25 March last, Khaleda was released from jail for six months on the basis of an executive order given her age and humanitarian grounds.

The government passed an executive order for her release on two conditions—-receiving treatment in her residence in Gulshan and not leaving the country.

Khaleda was sent to Old Dhaka Central Jail after she had been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by a special court in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8, 2018.
