A Balanced Budget to Tackle Economic Fallout from COVID-19, Says Quader

Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Friday that the budget proposed for 2020-21FY is balanced to restore the economy of the country affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He made the remark at a post-budget briefing by videoconferencing at the Dhanmondi Political Office of the President of the Awami League.

Mentioning that the budget was designed in a different context and reality, Quader said, "This is a practical charter to turn the present situation into a probability."

He also said that this budget was the result of a time-consuming and courageous thought by the government of Sheikh Hasina to take the country forward by maintaining a balance between lives and livelihoods.

Different countries in the world are conducting research to invent vaccine for Covid-19 disease and as soon as it is prepared will be brought to the country, Quader said adding that a plan was included in the budget proposal in this regard.

Social safety has been considered as the third priority sector in the budget to ease sufferings of working people affected by general holidays and lockdown, he added.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday proposed the national budget of Tk 568,000 crore for the 2020-21 fiscal year in Parliament.
