Gazipur City Mayor Jahangir Alam Served Show-Cause Notice

The Awami League (AL) has issued a show-cause notice to Gazipur metropolitan Awami League general secretary Jahangir Alam Sarkar, also the city mayor of Gazipur, on charges of carrying out activities against the interests of the Awami League and breaching organizational discipline.

This was confirmed in a letter signed by AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday (October 03).  AL office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua confirmed this to the media.

Recently, a video of Jahangir Alam spread through social media. In the video, Mayor Jahangir is heard expressing doubts about the number of 3 million martyrs of the liberation war, and also raised questions about Bangabandhu's intention to make the country free from the Pakistani military Junta.

Meanwhile, Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League president Advocate Azmat Ullah Khan said he had not yet received a copy of the show-cause notice. He hopes to receive a copy of the notice by 5 pm.

He declined to comment before receiving the notice.
