BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia
has undergone a biopsy and is now at the capital's Evercare Hospital's
intensive care unit (ICU).
During a news conference
today, the BNP leader's personal physician, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, informed the
media in this regard.
In the briefing, BNP
Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed that "advance
medical centers, which are essential for her better care, are not accessible in
the country."
"So her family sought to
take her abroad for treatment," he added, adding, "But we are so
ill-fated that even a former prime minister does not gain approval for
that."
"Given her health
circumstances, the government should approve her treatment overseas,"
Fakhrul remarked.
"We feel the cases
brought against Khaleda Zia should not prevent her from traveling abroad for
medical reasons," the top BNP leader added.
A medical board has also
advised Khaleda Zia's suitable treatment abroad, according to Khaleda's
physician, Dr. Zahid. Her family applied to the government after receiving that
suggestion, but they were turned down.
"She was brought to
Evercare Hospital because she had a fever for a few days," the doctor
explained.
