The
Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) has issued a statement regarding the
treatment of BNP chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who
is suffering from liver cirrhosis. The association says that the treatment of
Begum Khaleda Zia is possible in Bangladesh. Specialist doctors of the country
are able to provide world-class medical services for this disease.
The
Bangladesh Medical Association said in a statement sent to the media on Monday
(November 29). The statement has the signatures of six eminent specialist
doctors of the country including current and former central leaders of BMA.
It is said
that at present, doctors specializing in various complex diseases including
liver cirrhosis are providing treatment in government and private hospitals in
Bangladesh. Specialist doctors in Bangladesh have been able to provide
world-class medical care, which has been proven time and time again, because at
this time, almost all the patients suffering from complex diseases in
Bangladesh have received treatment in the country.
The
statement said that if Begum Khaleda Zia or the doctors of her medical board at
the private hospital where she is currently receiving treatment, if they feel
the need, they can bring in specialist doctors from abroad for advice. At
present, considering her physical condition, she is more likely to be harmed if
she moves, experts said, adding that the doctors providing medical treatment at
the hospital said in a press briefing. Therefore, her treatment should be
continued in the country as per the advice of doctors without any political
consideration.
The
statement was signed by the President of Bangladesh Medical Association Dr.
Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, former President and former Vice Chancellor of
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof. Dr. Mahmud Hasan, former Secretary
General of BMA Dr. Md Shafiqur Rahman, another former Secretary General Prof.
Dr. Kazi Shahidul Alam, former Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib
Medical University, Prof. Dr. Konak Kanti Barua and the current Vice Chancellor
Prof. Dr. Md Sharfuddin Ahmed.
