Joynal Abedin Hazari, a member of the advisory council of Bangladesh Awami League and former general secretary of Feni district Awami League, is no more.

He died at Lab Aid Hospital in the capital around 5:30 pm on Monday (December 27).

Incumbent Feni-2 MP Nizam Uddin Hazari has confirmed the matter.

Joynal Hazari was the general secretary of Feni district Awami League from 1984 to 2004. He was elected Member of Parliament from Feni-2 (Sadar) constituency three times in a row in 1986, 1991 and 1996.

Joynal Hazari fled the country on August 17, 2001 during the caretaker government. Joynal Hazari was involved in various controversies during his last term as a Member of Parliament. Due to this he was expelled from the party in 2004. After that he was inactive in politics for a long time. He is also the editor of a daily called Hazarika from Feni.

He returned to the country in February 2009 after the Awami League came to power in the ninth parliamentary elections. He was sentenced to 60 years in five cases.

Hazari then surrendered to the High Court on February 22 of that year and was granted eight weeks bail. He later surrendered to the lower court on April 15 and was sent to jail. He was released on bail on September 2, 2009 after serving four months in prison.
