Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said the leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have nowadays started daydreaming, reports BSS.

He made the remark while speaking at a press conference at his official residence here.

Responding to a statement of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia had laid the foundation stone of Padma Bridge, Quader said the BNP secretary general has given such an imaginary statement after seeing a dream.

He said many BNP leaders like Fakhrul are now daydreaming in recent days.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said the country's people know that falsehood is the religion of BNP but the party has created a new record of absolute lying at the broad daylight after raising that claim.

"This statement of Mr Fakhrul about the foundation stone of the Padma Bridge is the best discovery of the year," he added.

Asking Fakhrul to show the photos about the foundation stone of Padma Bridge laid by Khaleda Zia, the AL general secretary said in fact Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone of the bridge on July 4 in 2001, which was a part of the country's history.

News of that event was published in different media and pictures of the foundation stone of the bridge were also published in newspapers, which are still preserved in archives, he said.

He said the way the BNP leaders are saying, it seems that after a few days, they may claim that Padma Bridge was dreamt by Ziaur Rahman.

The task of the BNP leaders is simply to utter absolute lies repeatedly in the Goebbels style with an effort to turn the false into truth, Quader said.

Noting that the BNP's constant past plots and rumours could not halt the construction of the Padma Bridge, the road transport and bridges said the BNP leaders have been suffering from internal burning as Sheikh Hasina has built the self-financed bridge over the Padma River.
