The bank accounts of Sheikh Hasina's son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and his daughter, Saima Wazed Putul, have been frozen. The accounts of Sheikh Rehana's son, Radwan Mujib Siddique Bobby, have also been ordered to be frozen.
On Monday (September 30), the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) sent a letter to all banks regarding this matter.
In addition to the three members of the Sheikh family, the bank account of former State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid (Bipu) and the accounts associated with the Awami League's research organization, the Center for Research and Information (CRI), as well as the CRI–Young Bangla project, have also been ordered to be frozen.
Sajeeb Wazed and Saima Wazed's personal and privately owned business accounts will remain frozen. They will not be able to conduct any transactions in these accounts for the next 30 days. If necessary, the suspension period may be extended.
The directive to freeze transactions will be subject to the relevant provisions of the money laundering prevention regulations, as stated in the BFIU's letter. The letter includes their names and national identification details.
Banks have been instructed to send relevant documents related to the accounts that have been frozen, such as account opening forms, Know Your Customer (KYC) information, and transaction details, to the BFIU.
