The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has proposed reforms in ten areas, including the electoral system, judiciary, law and order, foreign affairs, and education.

On Wednesday, October 9, Jamaat’s Deputy Amir Dr. Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher presented the "State Reform Proposal."

He stated that numerous reforms are necessary for conducting fair elections and emphasized the need to separate the judiciary from the executive branch, potentially requiring amendments to the law. Additionally, he called for the appointment of a deputy speaker from the opposition in Parliament and insisted that local government elections should be free from party influence.

Dr. Taher further highlighted that reforms in law enforcement are crucial, including the abolition of British-era laws governing the police, stopping political interference in police recruitment, ensuring religious education in police training, and prohibiting the issuance of lethal weapons to police forces.

He noted that personnel who have worked in the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) over the past 15 years should not be reinstated, and reforms must be implemented to restore public trust in RAB.

On October 5, a delegation from Jamaat, including its Amir, participated in a dialogue at the State Guest House Jamuna at the invitation of Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. After the dialogue, the Jamaat Amir informed reporters that on October 9, they would present their outline for state reform.

He mentioned that the current government is not focused on governance but rather on creating an environment for elections. Various reform proposals have been put forward to them. Jamaat aims to present a framework for state reform and hopes the government will provide a fair election for the nation. He stated that they want to give the government a reasonable amount of time, though the duration has yet to be specified.
