Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, editor of the daily Amar Desh, has warned that if the student wing of the Awami League, Chhatra League, is not banned as a terrorist organization by next Sunday (October 13), a continuous movement will be launched.
He made this statement today, Thursday (October 10), during a discussion meeting with students at Islamic University.
He stated, "To ban the Awami League, the terrorist organization called Chhatra League must be banned first. Let it start with Chhatra League, and then the Awami League will follow. I had given a seven-day ultimatum, and that time will end on Sunday. If Chhatra League is not banned by then, we will begin our movement from Monday."
At the meeting, organized under the banner of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the university's TSC corridor, Dr. Mahmudur Rahman encouraged the students to start their own protests in support of the demands. "You will continue the movement until it is banned. I will be active in Dhaka, while you remain active here," he said.
He added, “The tyrannical rule that has weighed down on us has fallen due to the people's movement. This revolution cannot be diverted. Discussions about Sheikh Hasina's past misdeeds have somewhat faded. We are beginning to forget her monstrous actions. Because we are not talking about the Awami League's wrongdoings, opportunists are finding space to speak. Therefore, we must continue the fight through intellectual discourse. At the same time, we must strive to maintain this interim government, as its collapse would allow Indian imperialism to rise. But if we all remain united, the opportunists will not be able to gain ground.”
The meeting was attended by former Secretary General of the National Press Club Syed Abdal Ahmed, former President of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists and Managing Director of the Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust M. Abdullah, convener of the Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) Professor Dr. Major Abdul Wahab Minar, Proctor of Islamic University Professor Dr. Shahinuzzaman, and Student Advisor Professor Dr. Obaidul Islam, along with SM Sweet, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at the university. Students from various departments also participated in the meeting.
