In a recent interview with the media, Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam stated that the Awami League has lost its moral right to participate in politics.

Referring to the controversial actions of Sheikh Hasina and her party during the July-August massacres, he mentioned that demands for banning the Awami League are gaining momentum in various quarters.

When asked how the government views this demand, Nahid Islam said, *"By indiscriminately killing people during the student and public uprisings, the Awami League has lost its moral authority to engage in politics. They must not only face justice but also seek forgiveness from the people."*

Government’s Stance on Elections

Nahid Islam emphasized that the government is accountable not to any political party but to the aspirations of the people. Responding to the BNP's calls for early elections, he clarified that the government will move forward with elections based on the progress of the Reform Commission's work.

Media Reform and Freedom

Addressing media reform, Nahid Islam stated that the commission formed for this purpose will draft laws ensuring that no one can dominate or manipulate the media in the future.

He said, "We will review the laws that hinder media freedom. Along with economic and political security and related issues, we aim to create a framework that allows for uninterrupted and independent media practices in the country."

Challenges for the Interim Government

The interim government, established after the mass uprising, is facing pressure to meet a series of demands from various quarters. While acknowledging that some demands are legitimate, Nahid Islam expressed concerns that not all are genuine, and there might be conspiracies lurking behind some of them.
