The activists of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student front of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, played a co-fighter role during the anti-fascist movement, Sarjis Alam, a frontline fighter of the revolutionary movement said on Tuesday.
“Shibir activists were directly or indirectly involved in the movement and their role was most effective during the movement. We worked together and devised plans sitting across a table,” Sarjis, also general secretary of the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation, said.
Sarjis made the remarks while addressing the inaugural session of a conference of the central members of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir held at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka this noon.
Recognising the role of the student organisation, Sarjis said the activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement fought shoulder-to-shoulder with Shibir activists against the fascist government.
Claiming that the day to blame Chhatra Shibir men for everything has met an end, Sarjis said fascism is the main enemy of the country and its people and the Shibir activists must be acceptable to all people to build a strong resistance to prevent the recurrence of the fascism.
The conference, held at Suhrawardy Udyan around 8 am, marked the first such event in 13 years and aimed to engage students in Shibir politics.
