The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained a person in Dhaka for his suspected involvement in online casinos.

Salim Prodhan was held from an aircraft at the Dhaka airport on Monday (Sept 30), said a spokesperson for the elite police unit.

The suspect is involved with online casino operations in Bangladesh, Deputy Director Mizanur Rahman of the RAB’s legal and media wing told Bangla Tribune. “He has been detained for interrogation.”

A senior RAB officer claimed that Salim is the ‘Bangladesh country chief of online casinos’.

“Salim was being watched for quite some time. He is responsible for online casino operations in Bangladesh,” the official, asking not to be named, told Bangla Tribune.

Earlier in the day, RAB personnel held Salim from a Thai Airways flight. Sources at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport said that Salim, who was flying in business class, was disembarked from the plane minutes before taxying.
