At least 20 persons, including some patients, were injured while rushing out of a Chandpur hospital following a rumor of fire last night.

Around 400 people went out of Chandpur General Hospital around 10:00pm after hearing a loud noise, Dr Anwarul Azim, director of Chandpur General Hospital, said.

At least twenty people including a nurse Rehana Akhter and some patients were hurt during the incident, he said.

The patients, attendants and hospital staff became panicked when an oxygen cylinder dropped on the ground accidentally and its lid got opened, which made a loud noise, Dr Anwarul Azim said.

There was no fire in the hospital, he added.

Hearing the incident, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Chandpur went to the spot immediately along with police and fire service members and brought the situation under control, he said.
