China has added another five parks to its list of national geoparks, bringing the total number to 219, according to the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, reports China News Agency Xinhua.

Two of the newly named national geoparks are located in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, featuring unique karst landforms and water landscapes, while the remaining three are in Tibet Autonomous Region and the provinces of Hubei and Sichuan, respectively.

Home to one of the richest collections of geological relics worldwide, China has 39 world geoparks, 219 national geoparks and nearly 400 at the provincial level.

Receiving more than 500 million tourists each year, geoparks in the country have become important bases of nature education, said the administration.
