Rail services between Dhaka and the northern regions have been suspended after a train derailed in Sirajganj's Ullahpara.

A Dhaka-bound Rangpur Express train went off the tracks near the Ullahpara Railway Station around 2:30 pm on Thursday, said Shahidul Islam, chief operating superintendent of the railway authority (west).

Three bogies of Rangpur Express train have derailed after the engine caught fire.

Assistant Station Master of Ullapara rail station Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter.

He said: "Three bogies of a Lalmonirhat-bound train of Rangpur Express, coming from Dhaka, derailed after the engine caught fire, just after leaving the Ullapara rail station."

Assistant Executive Engineer of West Bengal Railway (Pakshi) Ashrafuddin said a rescue team from Pabna’s Ishwardi is on its way to Ullahpara. 

No casualties have been reported so far.
