Pohela Falgun will now be celebrated on Valentine's Day, February 14, instead of February 13 due to the changes made in the Bangla calendar.

Bangla Academy Research, Compilation, Dictionary and Encyclopaedia Department Director Mobarak Hossain said the adjustments in the Bangla calendar have been made in accordance to historical dates of Bangladesh --February 21, 1952, March 26, 1971, and December 16, 1971.

Kazi Nazrul Islam and Rabindranath Tagore's birth anniversaries are also taken into consideration, he added.

According to the adjusted calendar, the Bangla month of Falgun will have 30 days instead of 29 when it is a leap year in the Gregorian calendar. Therefore, the Bangla New Year will start from April 14, like the past years.

The cabinet meeting on October 25, 2019, approved the new public holiday list of 2020 and the Ministry of Public Administration published the list in the form of a notice on October 30, 2019.
