DB Arrests 42 ‘Salaam Party Muggers’

Police's Detective Branch has detained 42 leaders of the "Salaam Movement," a group they say to have mugged people at knifepoint in multiple Dhaka regions.

The muggers were picked up yesterday during special raids on the capital, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said in a press release.

During the primary interrogation the arrestees admitted that, first, they welcomed tourists or rickshaw riders with "salaam" and then mugged them at the knife point.

They attacked people in areas around Satrasta, Nabisco, Mohakhali Bus Terminal, Banani, Gulshan-1, Rampura Bridge, Dhanmondi, Bongshal, Chawkbazar, Kalabagan, Gulistan, Jatrabari, Sayedabad, and New Market, according to the press release.

"Salaam Party was found after the police began digging at related mugging cases, the press release added.
