The High Court ordered the authorities to provide a passport within three days to Nurul Haque Nur, Vice President of Dhaka University Central Student's Union (DUCSU).

The High Court of Justice Gobinda Chandra Thakur and Justice Mohammad Ullah issued the order on Wednesday.

The bench announced on Wednesday that it was necessary to rule by the High Court on 23 January. The law was given in the form of a letter written by VP Nur because, despite applying for one, he did not obtain a passport.

Vp Nur's lawyer Mohsin Rashid, who was present at the court on Wednesday, said that, following a court order, the High Court directed the Director-General of the Department of Immigration and Passports to send his passport to VP Nur for three days.

VP Nur confirmed that he applied to the Department of Immigration and Passports for a passport under the emergency framework on 23 April 2019. The passport was expected to have been released on 2 May last year. Earlier, though, the authorities offered various excuses for suspending the question of passports for "mysterious reasons." Nur said that he had recently lodged a petition to the High Court to secure a passport.
