BSCIC to Get Separate Division for Salt: Humayun

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun today said the government has taken an initiative to establish a separate division for salt in Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) for ensuring fair prices for the salt farmers and developing the salt industry.

“Around 200 officials and employees, led by a joint secretary, will work in the division for salt sector,” he said, speaking as the chief guest at an inauguration function for the activities of collecting salt from farmers by Molla Salt Industry, marking the Mujib Year, at Hotel Ocean Paradise in Cox’s Bazar, said a press release here.

The minister said the government is working to ensure a fair price for the salt farmers and for this, necessary instruction has been given to the Industry Ministry and BSCIC.

“The number of lands for salt production has been reducing day by day due to tourism and other activities. For increasing salt production, it is essential to modernize the salt production process,” he added.

A lawmaker from Cox’s Bazar-2 constitution Asheq Ullah Rafiq, Lawmaker Kaniz Fatema Mostak and BSCIC Chairman Md Mostaq Hassan, among others, spoke on the occasion while Director of Molla Salt Mijanur Rahman Molla presided over the function.
