The High Court granted bail to expelled Jubo League leader and controversial contractor GK Shamim in an arms case filed against him.

He got the bail for six months on February 6 while the written order on his bail was prepared on February 12, apparently in a secret manner.

Asked about the bail of GK Shamin, public prosecutor Fazlur Rahman Khan said he has no idea about it and said he will look into the matter on Sunday.

On September 20 last year, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested GK Shamim on charges of extortion and tender manipulation.

His seven bodyguards, including the four accused in the arms case, were also arrested at the time.

The law enforcer conducted a raid on Shamim's house and office in the city's Niketon area and recovered eight firearms, a huge amount of ammunition, Tk 1.8 crore in cash, Fixed Deposit Receipts (FDRs) worth Tk 165 crore and around Tk 1.8 crore in cash and some foreign liquor.

Later, different cases were filed against him in connection with arms, drug and money laundering.
