On Monday, the Cabinet directed the administration and law enforcement agencies to implement the government directives on social distancing in a stricter manner to deter coronavirus spread throughout the country.

"The law enforcement authorities and the government have been instructed to take steps to improve the application of the directives in order to preserve social isolation. They were also told to conduct a huge drive in rural areas at the same time, "Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said in a press conference after the Cabinet meeting.

The weekly Cabinet meeting was held with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at her official residence Ganobhaban. But the Cabinet Secretary briefed the media at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Anwarul said since the coronavirus situation has worsened to some extent in the country, it will in no way be possible to keep the situation under control without the wholehearted support from people. “So, the Cabinet has repeatedly urged people to maintain social distancing and quarantine. Or else, it’ll in no way be possible to control it,” he added.

He said that no devotee from a distance should go to the mosques to pray. "The Imams and Moazzins, as well as a few local men, are there who can go to the mosques," he said.

On ready-made garments (RMG) factories, the Secretary of the Cabinet said that a comprehensive action plan will be implemented in this regard following a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister's Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office on Monday afternoon.
