The selling of rice to low-income people at Tk10 per kilogram under a special Open Market Selling (OMS) plan has been suspended fearing coronavirus spread.

The special OMS system was initiated in the country at the Prime Minister's behest to help low-income people during the corona situation.

It was reported to the media on Monday by Dr Mosammat Nazmanara Khanum, the Secretary of the Food Ministry.

Nazmanara Khanum informed that a large number of people were queuing to buy rice as the equal price card for this specific OMS was not compulsory. Such public meeting will trigger the virus to spread rapidly. The plan, for now, has been suspended.

After observing the condition again, the program will run again, she said.

She mentioned that an order was also given to cancel dealerships that misappropriated the rice system of the WHO.
