At least 40 intern doctors refrained from work at the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) in Barishal on Saturday demanding adequate safety gears amid the coronavirus outbreak.

According to sources, The students of Habibur Rahman Hall took the step after a fellow student tested positive on Friday.

On Saturday noon, they sought necessary safety gear from the hospital director and demanded samples of 15 students who came in contact with the infected student to be tested.

Although samples collected from them were sent to the lab for a test, the interns have refrained from providing services since the afternoon.

Contacted, Dr Bakir Hossain, director of the hospital, claimed they are facing no problem as other interns are working as before.

''The issue will be fixed soon,'' he added.
