Mithun's Father Dies, Actor Stranded in Bengaluru amid Lockdown

Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty's father, Basantakumar Chakraborty, died at the age of 95 due to kidney failure.

Basantakumar Chakraborty was dealing with age-related health problems and breathed his last Tuesday night, according to Mithun Chakraborty's younger sister, Namashi Chakraborty.

"Yes, my grandfather passed away last evening due to kidney failure," Namashi Chakraborty told.

Namashi Chakraborty said that his actor-father was stranded in Bengaluru because of the coronavirus-led national lockdown. Mithun Chakraborty is planning to travel to Mumbai for the last rites, his son said.

Bengali actor Rituparna Sengupta took to Twitter to offer condolences to the actor and his family.

"My deep condolences on the sudden demise of your father, Mithun Da. Stay strong may his soul rest in peace forever," Sengupta tweeted on Wednesday.
