BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has written to the Facebook authorities to take action to remove fake accounts and stop misleading propaganda in his name on the social media platform.

The letter, written in the letterhead of the BNP, was sent on Saturday.

In his letter, Fakhrul said, "I urge the Facebook authorities to take the required measures to rid me of the embarrassment of fabricated statements and opinions are being spread in my name via fake Facebook accounts."

He also said that for a long time, various false statements and opinions have been circulating in his name through opening fake accounts.

The BNP leader also said he himself never opened any Facebook account in his name.

Later, in a tweet, Fakhrul said he's been noticing for a long time that numerous statements, remarks, and thoughts are posted on Facebook by opening fake accounts in his name.

"I would like to clearly say I didn't open any Facebook account. So, I don't have any involvement in the opinions of the fake Facebook accounts and I won't be responsible for those either."

He urged those running the fake FB accounts in his name to refrain from doing such malpractice.
