BSCIC Seeks Loan at 4 pc Interest for Salt Farmers

Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) authorities have urged the seven banks in Cox's Bazar to issue loans at a cost of 4 percent interest to salt farmers.

The Salt Industry Development Office at Cox's Bazar BSCIC sent letters to local banks, said a press release.

Sonali Bank, Bangladesh Krishi Bank, Agrani Bank, Janata Bank, Rupali Bank, BASIC Bank, and Karmasangsthan Bank in Cox's Bazar have been urged to issue loans to salt farmers.

Muhammad Hafizur Rahman, Deputy General manager of Salt Industry Development Office, said that over 28,791 farmers cultivate salt on 57,722 hectares in the area.

Salt farmers have been continuing supply during the coronavirus pandemic, he said adding that farmers are not getting proper price.

He urged the authorities concerned to save salt farmers to save this industry.
