The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) on Tuesday decided to bring all of its students during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The decision was taken in Dean’s Committee meeting, chaired by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate building, says a DU press release.
A six-member committee was formed, headed by DU Treasurer Prof Dr Kamal Uddin, to formulate policies to bring all students under health insurance.
The initiative will also contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) and climb up in world rankings of universities, said the release.
Meanwhile, the university has decided to continue academic activities through online classes during the coronavirus outbreak.
The Dean's committee asked the departments and institutes to prepare a database for achieving 17 goals and 169 targets of SDG.
The departments and institutes were requested to submit the database by June 30 to DU Registrar Enamuzzman.
In late March, the Dhaka University authorities shut the educational institution to prevent the transmission of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, health authorities confirmed the detection of record 2,911 new coronavirus patients in the last 24 hours, raising the total cases to 52,445. Thirty-seven more people died from coronavirus during this period, taking the death tally to 709.
