COVID-19 Death Toll Reaches 746; Case Now 55,140

Bangladesh continues to see a quick rise in the number of coronavirus cases on Tuesday.

Health authorities confirmed the detection of 2,695 cases in the 24-hour period until the morning, taking the number of confirmed cases in the country to 55,140.

"During this period, 37 patients died, bringing the death count to 746," said Prof. Nasima Sultana, Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for Health Services (DGHS), during a regular online briefing.

Meanwhile, 470 more people recovered from the COVID-19 disease in this period, taking the total number of recovered patients to  11,590.

In the last 24 hours, 50 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested 12,510 samples, she added.

Bangladesh confirmed its first coronavirus cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.
