The health condition of ailing Awami League leader and former health minister Mohammad Nasim, who was infected by a coronavirus, deteriorated on Friday evening.

An emergency meeting of a 12-member medical board was held through a videoconference in this regard. Nasim’s son was present at the meeting.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Kanak Kanti Barua, chief of the board, confirmed the matter.

''His condition is critical, which means it has deteriorated,'' he said.

The medical board was formed on Monday.

On Friday, the former minister underwent successful surgery after his condition worsened following a stroke while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital.

A day before that, his health condition improved and he was scheduled to be shifted to a cabin from the ICU.
