Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) demanded a stimulus package of Tk 2,000 crore on Wednesday (July 1), arguing that the labor export sector suffered the most harm during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Many BAIRA members are unwilling to pay office rent and staff salaries since the export of labor halted since late March of this year, BAIRA said at a virtual seminar.

We wanted assurance that, according to a press release, the unions cannot appear in the future in the export of manpower.

BAIRA President Benzir Ahmed MP said he has sent a letter to the Prime Minister explaining the crisis of manpower exporters in April and demanded the stimulus.

“We are persistently maintaining contacts with the government to overcome the crisis," he said.

Talking about syndicate, he said, “We will make sure that everyone can do the business in future.”

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) former director Moktar Hossain Chowdhury said that expatriates were also victimized during the Covid-19 outbreak as thousands of expatriates had to return and others remained stuck abroad.

“We should make a database of the returned and trapped expatriates and the Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment can take this initiative,” he said.
