A 65-km traffic jam has been created on the Dhaka-Tangail highway since Friday morning, causing misery to tens of thousands of homebound Eid travelers.

Tangail Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjib Kumar Biswas said the major traffic jam on the significant highway from Gorai to Mirzapur to Bangabandhu Bridge was generated due to the rising number of Dhaka-bound cattle-loaded trucks and Eid holidaymakers' vehicles leaving Dhaka.

In addition, the Bangabandhu Bridge toll plaza was closed for 89 minutes, which also caused traffic jam on the highway.

Members of the law enforcement agencies and volunteers worked round-the-clock on the highway to relieve the gridlock, said Sanjib Kumar.

The Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest Muslim religious festival, will be observed in the country on August 1st.
