Eminent Artist Murtaza Bashir Hospitalised

Renowned artist Murtaja Baseer has been admitted to a hospital in the capital early Friday.

He is now undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of the Evercare Hospital.

Apart from heart problems, the 88-year-old renowned artist had been suffering from kidney and lung complications.

Confirming the news, Munira Baseer, elder daughter of the artist, said Murtaja Baseer was admitted to the hospital at around 1:30 am.

Munira Baseer sought prayers from the countrymen for his father's quick recovery.

Murtaja Baseer is considered one of Bangladesh's top painters. He is known to work in abstract realism. The Wings and the Epitaph series for the Martyrs are among the best works of the artist. He is the son of Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah, a scholar and linguist.
