Rayhan Kabir to Return from Malaysia Tonight

Bangladeshi expatriate Rayhan Kabir, a young man who was detained in Malaysia after featuring in the Al Jazeera documentary, is scheduled to depart Kuala Lumpur for Dhaka on Friday night.

Head of the BRAC migration system Shariful Islam announcing that Malaysia Airlines will arrive in Bangladesh sometime after 1:00 a.m. on Saturday.

On Wednesday, two lawyers representing Bangladeshi expatriate Md Rayhan Kabir said that the country's immigration had agreed to expel Rayhan, but that they would not file any proceedings against him.

Since the Malaysian police did not lodge a case against Rayhan, he did not face any legal difficulties.

Rayhan Kabir was detained on 24 July after a two-week manhunt after a wanted notice was released by the Immigration Department against him. In addition to the cancelation of his employment visa and the likely expulsion, he was blacklisted from ever reaching Malaysia again.

On 3 July 2020, Al Jazeera released a documentary, "Locked Up in Malaysia's Lockdown," which reported the mistreatment of migrant workers by the Malaysian authorities under the Movement Control Order enforced to respond to Covid-19.
