On Tuesday in Parliament, a bill entitled 'Gazipur Unnayan Kartripakkha Bill 2020' was passed to turn the fast-growing city of Gazipur into a planned, liveable and environment-friendly urban area.

The bill was moved by State Minister for Public Works and Housing Sharif Ahmed and passed by vote, reports BSS.

Gazipur Unnayan Kartripakkha (Gazipur Development Authority-GDA) will be like Chittagong Development Authority (CDA), Khulna Development Authority (KDA) and Rajshahi Development Authority (RDA).

The GDA's key role will be to devise city planning mega-plans and approve structural design.

A 22-member board will be headed by a chairman who will manage the GDA.

The jurisdiction of the GDA will be Gazipur City Corporation as well as its adjacent areas to be determined from time to time by the Government by issuing gazettes.
