The government has issued directives to reopen primary schools following the public health and hygiene rules during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has already made guidelines for the move.

The ministry also requested the Director-General of the Department of Primary Education on Tuesday to take necessary steps to send the guidelines to schools.

The ministry said preparations need to be taken in light of approved guidelines before reopening schools.

Earlier on last month, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain said ''We will ask the teachers to engage people in cleaning the schools 15 days before reopening as they have remained closed for a long time.''

''Everyone must wear masks and wash their hands before entering the schools. All health guidelines must be followed before one goes to school,'' he said.

Those with high temperature will not be allowed in, the state minister added.

Measures will also be in place to maintain physical distance among the students in the classes.

Due to the pandemic, the closure of primary schools started on March 17 at all educational institutions in the country and has been extended till October 3.
