10 Killed, Dozens Feared Trapped As Building Collapses in India

On Monday, the death toll from the collapse of the multi-storey building in the Indian state of Maharashtra's Bhiwandi rose to 10 even as five people were rescued from the debris, ANI news agency reported quoting the Thane Municipal Corporation spokesperson.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which is doing rescue operations, has pulled a child alive. According to ANI, thousands are now feared being stuck under the rubble.

According to initial information, locals have rescued 20 people after the building collapsed in the city's Patel compound area.

At around 3:40 am (local time), the building collapsed. A fire brigade and police squad are both working on-the-spot.

Approximately 20 families reportedly staying inside the building which was reportedly 40 years old.
