Global COVID-19 Caseload Exceeds 37.7mn: JHU

According to the latest tally from John Hopkins University (JHU), the global confirmed cases of Covid-19 reached 37.7 million as of Tuesday morning.

According to JHU data, 1,078, 868 coronavirus deaths have been reported.

In addition, more than 26 million coronavirus patients recovered.

The US has reported more than 214,000 deaths and more than 7.7 million cases, both the highest in the world.

Over the past 24 hours, India has reported 66,732 new cases, and its Covid-19 tally rose to 7,120,538 on Monday.

The death toll reached 109,150 with 816 deaths since Sunday morning, the ministry's data showed.

The third-worst-hit country Brazil has counted 5,103,408 cases and 150,689deaths.

In the meantime, a recent Australian study has proposed that SARS-CoV-2, the COVID-19 virus, will remain infectious in a laboratory for 28 days, a much longer time than previously believed.

The World Health Organization (WHO) leader has called herd immunity "scientifically and ethically questionable" against Covid-19.

In the city of Wuhan, China, the virus that causes Covid-19 respiratory infection was first identified in late 2019. In the first months of 2020, the outbreak spread rapidly across the globe and the WHO announced a global pandemic on March 11.

Coronavirus in Bangladesh

On Monday, Bangladesh's coronavirus case load stood at 379,738 with 1,472 new cases detected 24 hours a day until morning.

Health officials have also reported 31 more deaths during the time, raising the number to 5,555.

Total coronavirus recovery increased to 294,391, with 1,531 patients recovering during this time.

The fatality rate in Bangladesh is 1.46 percent, said a handout of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8. The number of cases reached the 300,000-mark on August 26. The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 5,000 on Sept 22.
