Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection (DNCRP)  undertook drives in the capital and other parts of the country to establish a stable potato and other essential products.

DNCRP Deputy Directors Masum Arefin and Bikash Chandra Das and Assistant Director Rozina Sultana conducted a kitchen market drive at the capital's Babubazar, Nayabazar and Shyambazar kitchen markets in Old Dhaka to track potato prices.

In addition, at district headquarters and other remote sites, deputy directors and other DNCRP officials conducted similar drives.

Prices for rice, onions, soybean oil and ginger were also monitored.

In Gaibandha, officials find 58,000 bags of potatoes hoarded in BNP chief Rahimuddin Bharosa's cold storage. The distributors sold potato at Tk 32 per kg, while the fixed government price is Tk 23.

Sources said the department fined the scrupulous businessmen and warned them not to sell higher prices for potatoes and other necessities. The officials also asked businessmen for money receipts to be preserved.
