Case against Nixon: Section 144 Imposed in Faridpur Sadar Upazila

On Saturday, local administration imposed section 144 on apprehending trouble at Faridpur Sadar Upazila headquarters as two groups called meetings at the same place and time, UNB reports.

Purobi Goldar, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer, said the restriction will remain in force until 9 am on Sunday.

Faridpur-4 supporters On Saturday, MP Mujibur Rahman Nixon Chowdhury and their rival party called meetings at Sadarpur Stadium in Sadar Upazila headquarters about 10 a.m.

Apprehending potential confrontation, the local administration imposed a ban on public gatherings in Sadar Upazila Headquarters in an area of around one kilometer.

Sadarpur Upazila Chairman Kazi Shafiqur called a rally protesting the case brought against MP Nixon, while Sayedid Gamal Lipu, a member of the Jubo League central committee, called another rally demanding MP Nixon's arrest.

A case against Faridpur-4 MP Mujibur Rahman Nixon Chowdhury was filed on Thursday for breaching the electoral code of conduct during Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad's by-election as chairman.

Saiful Islam, an election commission officer, said that Senior District Election Commission officer Nauabul Islam filed the case with the Charbhadrashon police station about 10 am.

Legal action against the MP under the Upazila Parishad Electoral Code 2013 and the Upazila Parishad Elector Code of Conduct 2016 was pursued in the FIR case.

Faridpur-4 MP Mujibur Rahman Nixon Chowdhury allegedly threatened the Faridpur district deputy commissioner and assistant commissioner (land) over the arrest of his supporters during by-polls to the office of Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad chairman.
